About Dr Q

Dr Laura Quinton, (AKA Dr Q), is a London based doctor with a career long interest in complementary medicine. She believes in a holistic and natural approach to treating patients. At present she is working to become a certified Nutritional Therapist. She is fully registered with the General Medical Council and a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

Dr Quinton began studying Medicine at University College London Medical School in 1985 and graduated in 1991. She also studied for an extra year to obtain an Honors degree in Psychology at UCL in addition to her medical degree. She appreciates the complex relationships between body and mind and how this affects health and wellbeing.

Dr Quinton has been a GP since 1996. Before entering General Practice, she spent time working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics. She holds the Diploma of Child Health and worked at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Children in East London. She spent some time working in Gynaecology units and Labour wards in several London Teaching hospitals including two years in the IVF clinic at The Hammersmith Hospital. As well as carrying out IVF cycles for the patients, Dr Quinton carried out clinical research into the psychological aspects of infertility under the supervision of Professor Lord Winston.

At present, Dr Quinton works in her NHS GP surgery in Wandsworth. She also teaches medical students from St Georges Medical School and is a GP trainer for the London Deanery. She is also a qualified GP appraiser and a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

In addition to her medical work she is working towards a three year Diploma in Nutrition from the College of Naturopathic Nutrition in London. This involves learning about nutritional approaches to medical conditions and using food as medicine. She enjoys reading and researching evidence for complementary therapies and has studied many therapies during her years as a GP. She believes in an open minded and holistic approach to medical practice. The ultimate aim is to help people feel as well as they can and to optimise an individual’s health safely.

My approach comes from studying Medicine, Psychology and Nutrition with 30 years experience seeing patients and learning about their illnesses, their stories and their lives. I now want to write about ways for people to restore and rejuvenate their way back to the best that they can feel. Balance the Whole.
